Amazing Little People

I am trying this new thing, where I actually take the time to listen, truly listen to what Piper and Parker have to say. I know this statement may sound horrible but in the day in and day out routines sometimes I feel like I don't listen to them well enough and just bark orders. I don't want to look back 20 years from now and wonder who our daughters were. I tried this last night when I got home from a meeting. Both girls were already in bed, (thank you Kris!!) and Piper was still awake when I got home. She was laying in bed with a few Barbies and watching the Grinch. She was very happy to see me, which is an amazing feeling in and of itself. But instead of hushing her into bed when she ran to the door and threw her arms around me telling me how much she missed me, I instead reached down picked her up and carried her back to bed. I laid down beside her and let her tell me about her day. I laid there and watched her sweet eyes fill with excitement about school and her eyebrows, much like mine, go up and down with each new expression. I listened to how proud she was of Parker for going potty on the toilet, and I learned that she got a new job at preschool that morning, getting to help out Mrs. Self which is something Piper enjoys. I didn't want to leave her side but knew if I stayed I'd get her too wound up and we'd end up waking up Parkie. So about 10 minutes later I tucked her in as snug as a bug could be and gave her lots of kisses and nose kisses. (I snuck a few more of those in later when she was asleep) and left their room. As I stood in their doorway about 30 minutes later, I watched these amazing little people dream amazing dreams. And it was at that very moment that I realized all of my dreams had come true, in them. Thank you God for loaning Kris and I these amazing little people to raise as our children. I am truly blessed to be their mother!

Isn't it amazing to see how they are such little people with independent thoughts and opinions? What a blessing to get to have a small role in their big futures. What a beautiful post.
